Playing poker for the first time could get a little intimidating, especially if you see and feel that your opponents know what they're doing and talking about. It's one thing to learn all the moves, but it's another to actually understand what's going on and what's being said.

For you to fully comprehend your game of Texas Hold'Em poker, it is vital that you know all the terms being used by the dealer and the players. True, you may not learn all of them in one sitting but at least know the ones that are often used and exchanged between the dealer and the players and the players between themselves.

Basic Hand Terms in Texas Hold'Em

Flush - A hand that has five cards having similar suits in no apparent order, like a mix of a Ten, Eight, Ace, Three and Five of Diamonds.

Full House - A hand that has three cards of the same kind plus a pair. It could be three Aces plus a pair of Jacks.

Royal Flush - This hand has all the highest-valued cards of the same suit, such as Spades of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.

Straight Flush - A hand that has a straight descending value of cards of the same suit, such as Diamonds of King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine.

Straight - Five cards of descending order not of similar suits, like a Ten of Spades, Nine of Diamonds, Eight of hearts, Seven of Clovers and a Six of Spades.

Three-of-a-Kind - This hand has three cards of the same kind plus two of any value or suit, such as three Jacks, a seven of Hearts and a three of Spades.

Two-of-a-Kind has two similar kinds of cards plus three of any variations.

Basic Betting and Other Terms

All-In - In poker betting, this means that a person puts all his chips in the pot in one betting round.

Big Blind - In Texas Hold-Em, this is the compulsory bet that the person two places from the dealer has to make before the game begins.

Call - When someone makes a bet and another player either calls to put in the same last amount or top the last amount placed.

Check - A person opts to not place a bet at the time that his turn comes. Fifth Street - This is the last of the face-up cards that will be placed on the board before final betting begins.

Fish - If you are alluded this term when you-re playing, it means that you-re someone who loses money quickly.

Flop - These are the first three cards that are dealt suits up and placed on the board.

Live Hand - When you have this, it means that you shouldn-t give up just yet. You might still win the game.

Monster Hand - This means that your cards have the biggest odds of winning the game.

Pass - This simply means that you have decided to give up and stop playing the round. You naturally will lose your chance of winning back your bets in the round.
