Know the Hand Rankings in Texas HoldEm
Understanding Texas HoldEm is easier than you think. Its not the most favorite poker variation for nothing, after all. First of all, its difference lies in the two hole cards that each player is given at the start of the game.
These cards are the Aces up your sleeves, in a manner of speaking. Briefly, in Texas HoldEm, the two hole cards are given suits down, and a second round of betting begins. Three community cards will be dealt until the Fifth Street and the last betting takes place.
The community cards are always dealt suits showing for all players to see, and these community cards are what the players will then use to combine with their two hole cards to make what they hope will be a good enough combination to help them win.
The trick now is knowing which combination is the highest and which one is the lowest.
First Five Highest Hand Rankings in Texas Holdem
First on the list is the Royal Flush. This is the highest five-card combination in Texas HoldEm. A Royal Flush consists of all the highest value of cards in the deck of similar suit. An example of this is Diamonds of an Ace, K, Q, J and Ten, or Hearts, Spades or Clovers of the same combination.
Next in line is the Straight Flush. This one has the five straight descending or ascending value of the similar suit. For instance, Diamonds of Four, Five, Six, Seven and Eight. You could also have Spades of Six, Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten, and so forth.
4-of-a-Kind has 4 cards of the same number but not the same suits plus a fifth card of any value to make a five-card combination. In this instance, it could be all four Queens on the deck and any card to make it five.
3-of-a-Kind, on the other hand, has 3 cards of the similar suit plus a pair. An example of this is a combination of 3 Jacks and a pair of Tens.
The fifth five-card combination according to hierarchy is the Flush. This consists of five cards having similar suits, at no particular order. You can have a Five, Nine, Three, Ace and a Ten of Diamonds, Spades, Hearts, or Clubs, or any other five-card combination of the similar suit.
Last Five Lower Hand Rankings
The sixth five-card in the hand rankings is called Straight. Here, you can have a straight descending five-card combination of any suit. For instance, you may have a Straight Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine and Eight of any suit.
Then there is the Three-of-a-Kind; with 3 cards having the same value plus two other cards of any suit and value. Here, you can have three Jacks, plus a Ten and a Nine of any suit.
2 Pairs will have two pairs of any value plus a fifth card such as a pair of Jacks and a pair of Queens plus a single Two.
One Pair has only a single pair of, say, Queens plus three other cards of any suit and value.
High Card simply means that you cannot form any of the above combinations, and your card value is dictated by your highest card.
